It is hard to believe that 70% of Phuket is mountains and, despite all the development, much of the island is still forest. But this park in the northern part of the island is Phuket’s last significant virgin rain forest. If you only have a short time to spend then the walk up to the Tonsai waterfall is a must. For those who want a longer spell in the tropical forest there is an eight-kilometer trek right through the park from Bang Pae waterfall to Ton Sai. Guides are available at the park, and if you opt for the longer trek a guide is highly recommended, particularly if you hope to see some of the wildlife that abides in the forest. Asmall museum and information center is near the bottom of the waterfall. To get here take Route 4027 east from the Heroines’ Roundabout for seven kilometers. The entrance is well signposted on the left.
